GDPR Compliance & User Data Controls
How we use cookies and local storage, when we run analytics and ads (with your consent), and what rights you have under GDPR.
OBSWeather is committed to complying with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This page explains what data we process, on what legal bases, and how you can control it via consent and your GDPR rights.
- Consent — for non-essential cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics and Google Ads/AdSense.
- Legitimate interest / contract necessity — essential cookies and local storage required to operate the site (e.g., consent state, basic security, widget preferences).
With your consent, we use Google Analytics to measure aggregate usage (page views, device/browser info, referring pages, events) to improve content and performance. We do not use Analytics to identify you personally.
- Control: opt in/out via our cookie banner at any time.
- Retention: limited per our GA settings.
With your consent, we use Google Ads/AdSense to serve ads. Google and partners may use cookies or similar tech to deliver and measure ads, limit frequency, prevent fraud, and—if you consent—show personalized ads. If you decline, you may see non-personalized/contextual ads or no ads depending on your region and settings.
Control: manage consent via our banner; you can also adjust ad personalization in your Google account or use industry opt-out tools.
- Preferences in localStorage persist until you clear browser data or change settings.
- Analytics/ads data retention is managed by Google per our configured limits.
You may exercise the following rights where applicable:
- Access and portability of your data.
- Rectification and erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
- Restriction and objection to processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g., via the cookie banner) without affecting past lawful processing.
Many preferences are stored locally on your device; you can delete them by clearing your browser cookies/localStorage.
Some providers (e.g., Google) may process data outside the EU/EEA. Transfers are protected by mechanisms such as the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and/or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
- Google Analytics — usage measurement and performance insights (with consent).
- Google Ads/AdSense — ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention (with consent).
We follow industry best practices (HTTPS/TLS, least-privilege access, regular maintenance) and keep client-side data minimal. Sensitive preferences are never required to use the widget.
Our services are intended for general audiences and not directed to children under the age required by your local law. We do not knowingly process children’s personal data.
To exercise your rights or ask questions:
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority (DPA) in the EU/EEA.
